If you are looking for job openings online you have a lot of competition.
There are tons of job listings on major job banks such as Monster, CareerBuilder and HotJobs. But remember: millions of people are looking for positions on these sites as well.
For example, Monster has less than a million job listings, but they have nearly 50 million registered users and nearly 40 million posted resumes. The odds are not in your favor when looking at the job listings.
Some recruiters report receiving hundreds of resumes within days of posting on Monster's site. The competition is fierce.
To be successful in this crowded job listing environment, those seeking employment must expand their search and take advantage of other resources to make sure they are covering all the bases.
Most major colleges and universities will have job listings targeted to candidates from their particular school.
If you need to zero in on a specific geographic area, make sure to take advantage of local resources. America's Job Bank includes job listings from various state labor departments. Their database is searchable by job title and location. Once registered, you can post your resume, write cover letters, track your searches, and more.
Don't forget about local resources. Many sites are targeted to job listings in a particular region, state or city.
Also keep in mind sites focusing on specific occupations. These site offer job listings from A to Z. Online resources exist for just about every career.
Paid search services should not be overlooked either. Many times they have job listings not available elsewhere.
Good luck on your search! |
